Extreme Sports Network - Mountain Biking

The extreme sport of mountain biking is much like snowboarding, in the aspect that it usually requires a mountain or rugged environment to get the full effect. Mountain biking only requires a sturdy bike, and a good amount of endurance. This has led the sport to become popular among extreme sports enthusiasts, as it is relatively cheap and offers a great balance of safety and thrill.

There are several styles of mountain biking, with downhill, cross country, and free riding being the most popular. Downhill mountain biking is simply traversing a slope, usually some form of mountain or hill, and then finding the best route down in the least amount possible. This is popular among competitions, as it is usually the most action-oriented style of mountain biking. Cross country requires more endurance, and is usually practiced in rugged terrain. The long treks in this style of mountain biking require a lot of training before a good performance is seen. Lastly, a free ride incorporates any type of style possible- from jumps, to downhill racing, to cross country treks.

The most popular locations for mountain biking is in a national park. A national park will provide the best scenery and land deformation needed to perform jumps, tricks, or high velocities. When access to a national park isnŐt near, then a hiking trail or other type of outdoor woods environment almost always works. A common problem with mountain biking is obtaining permission before riding on certain lands or property- which means that a little research should be taken into effect before setting off. If all else fails, practicing on competition grounds is a great way to get started with practicing.

Since mountain biking requires a lot of endurance, the sport is not for everyone. More obese people will likely see less enjoyment from the sport. On the contrary, as a lighter weight almost always means a faster race time, and less work is required to cross the finish line. The sport is still open to hobbyists, nonetheless, so there really is no need to pass the sport up based on weight. In fact, mountain biking is said to be therapeutic among those who practice it. The often green scenery that is seen throughout the typical mountain biking ride is a great stress reliever, not to mention that the exercise released endorphins that fuel both physical and mental strength.

The average mountain biker will tell you that the sport is the best averaged extreme sport available. The startup cost to enjoy it is very minimal, and the safety concerns follow the same correlation. In fact, the only deficiency the sport sees is the lack of adrenaline that more extreme sports such as skydiving hold- although this isnŐt always the case. If an introduction to the extreme sport game is desired, a start with mountain biking is a very wise choice. The sport attracts enthusiasts of all ages, old and young- so gaining entry to the sport is fairly easy, unlike other extreme sports that are closed to the younger and elderly individuals.
